Today we are looking at the response that the prophets throughout the Bible call for - repentance: turning from our sin and self-centred ways of living, and trusting Jesus with our lives. Our main text today is 2 Corinthians 7:9-10, and the challenge before us is to live in the reality that genuine repentance that godly sorrow produces frees us to live a live with no regret. Is that even possible? In Christ, it is.
In this message, Pastor Doug references Freedom Session, a 28 week healing-discipleship journey that embraces this definition and result of repentance. While we do run an in-person large group version of this program on Tuesday nights at Gospel Chapel, the resources are freely available to anyone at any time. You can begin your journey today. Visit the Freedom Session website, purchase the workbooks, and register for the Teaching Videos and Mid-week Mentor sessions online.
While you can do this on your own, my recommendation is that you work through this with at least two other people. Our lives are meant to be lived in community. Our wounds and hurts are all related to community. Because our brokenness occurs in community, our healing requires community. James 5:16 says, "Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another that you may be healed." I am convinced that we don't see much in the way of healing (physical, emotional, psychological, or spiritual) because we don't follow this - we don't spend time in mutual confession and then prayer for one another on a deeper level. That can change and Freedom Session is a great tool for this.
