A People Returned (Ezra 1)
Tuesday Jan 03, 2023
Tuesday Jan 03, 2023
As we start 2023, God may be calling you to renew, renovate, or rebuild some aspect of your life. What might that be? It's always a challenge to do renovations or to recover from a disaster. How does God work in people's lives to accomplish His rebuilding purposes?
Today we're looking at Ezra 1, and seeing that God moves in the heart of a king and a people to rebuild the Temple that was destroyed decades earlier. The people whom God moved to go from Babylon to Jerusalem would be returning to a city destroyed and to homes of rubble. Their calling was not to a place of abundance, but to a place of desolation. And from that desolation they were to rebuild a place of God-centred worship.
Sometimes that how God works. He calls us to face our desolation before we can experience wholeness and healing. He calls us to a renovation project that requires facing the reality of our brokenness so that we can learn to trust Him with our hurts and our healing.

God’s Promise to His People (Jeremiah 30:8-22)
Monday Dec 05, 2022
Monday Dec 05, 2022
Though judgment is falling, and suffering and exile are the experience of God's people to whom Jeremiah is writing, God is working for their restoration, healing, and freedom. How God accomplishes those realities is often not how we envision it. In many ways, the work of God is the opposite of what we expect, but it is desperately what we need.
Isaiah 53:-4-5 (ESV) - "Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed."

Take Refuge, Not Revenge (Nahum 1:1-8; 3:1-7)
Monday Nov 14, 2022
Monday Nov 14, 2022
Pastor Ben continues in "The Gospel Project" looking at the book of Nahum. What is the message that the people Israel is to hear from this book? Whether this book was written before or after the Assyrian conquest of the Northern Kingdom, it is a message of challenge and hope. God would hold Assyria to account for their actions. He always does. God is just and fair and patient. We may not like His timeline or seeming inaction against those who disagree with us or even persecute us, but His justice is right on time, and it is always holy. Wait for Him.

The Annoying Grace of God (Jonah 4)
Monday Nov 07, 2022
Monday Nov 07, 2022
God's grace is amazing. We sing that. We believe that. We celebrate that.
But what about when God extends His marvellous grace to those we disagree with, dislike, or who are flat out our enemies?
The Book of Jonah was written to Israel to lead them to repentance and transformation. It's not just a neat story about a messed up prophet - there is an expected response from the first readers and hearers of this book.

Gospel Podcasts
Our podcast started out simply as audio sermons from our Sunday services. Recently we've started two additional shows: Gospel Conversations and Gospel Reflections.
In Gospel Conversations, Pastor Doug talks with various missionaries that we support, and people in our congregation as they walk with Jesus.
In Gospel Reflections, Pastor Doug shares thoughts from his study of the Bible. Often this will include excerpts from commentators, church history, or something that speaks to where we are at today.
Our goal here is simple: Helping People Follow Jesus.
