Today we begin an eight week study in the prophet Malachi. The key issue is encapsulated in the first declaration of God, "I have loved you." All the issues that Malachi will address relate to the fact that we often question this.

Responding to the Word of God (Nehemiah 8)

The walls were restored. The project was finished. Now what?

Completing the Wall (Nehemiah 6:15-7:4)

The wall is built, but the work has just begun. Nehemiah's primary project has taken a lot to get done. He's faced conflict and pushback from surrounding nations, and from inside the walls. That's ministry. That's leadership.
He's also fully aware that the real project is just beginning. Only 52 days have gone by. Nehemiah will spend 12 years as the governor of Jerusalem, but he won't do it alone. The task now is bigger, more complex, more personal, and deeply spiritual.

Enduring in God's Vision: Part Two (Nehemiah 5)

Nehemiah faces more pressures to quit, but he saw the project through. He knew that the distractions and the pressures would undermine the purpose God had for him. How are we doing in evaluating the people and things that seek to take up our time and energy? How do we discern legitimate concerns and corrections from simple distraction or discouragement?

Enduring in God's Vision: Part One (Nehemiah 4)

Verbal assault, physical threat, and discouraged people. These can undermine following through on God's purposes for our lives. How much more so when all three are piled up in short order?
Nehemiah models how to prayerful adjust and respond to a variety of problems while maintaining his focus on what God called him to do. Following God, pursuing His vision, is never easy. It takes tenacity and creativity.
